10/10/2024 - 10/10/2024 TH, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Kamloops Sports Council Clubhouse
Death Care BC was created to bridge the education gap between end-of-life and after-death care. This session will help you understand the options and rights of the deathcare consumer before the moment of need and provide practical empowerment during your most vulnerable days. You will also learn about green burial options and current conversations between the community and the city in providing this alternative to more traditional burial approaches. There will be time for Q & A.
Community Cemetery Stories
The Pleasant Street cemetery has all kinds of stories from members of our community.
Come share your personal stories of how you connect to the beloved living (trees, birds, flowers) and non-living (deceased loved ones, historical figures) beings in the cemetery. We will tour the cemetery and collectively offer our stories and observations.
We will also offer time for a connecting and appreciative ritual, as well as tea and snacks.
The Next Day: What Happens After Someone Dies
BC Centre for Palliative Care: Grief & Bereavement ECHO Series
After someone dies they are transferred into the care of the entirely privatised BC deathcare system.
In this session, Emily from DeathCare BC will take participants through the initial decisions and journey of those early days after death. Emily believes that knowing the details of what happens next is essential to providing supportive care to survivors in early bereavement. There will be opportunity for questions and discussion following the presentation.
